JOHN GROVES - trombone
The leader of SOUL GETAWAY John Groves was born and raised in the Seattle area. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Central Washington University with focused studies in the areas of trombone performance and music education. John also leads a jazz combo, performs on the ancient Australian Aboriginal musical instrument known as the didgeridoo and he teaches trombone, low brass & didgeridoo lessons for all ages and abilities. John's past performance experiences include being the original trombonist and horn arranger for Earth Wind & Fire tribute band Kalimba. He has also performed with Alice & Chains, Heart, various blues, funk, rock, jazz bands and symphony orchestras over the years. After years of performing and arranging music for other musicians and bands John has focused his energy into assembling a seasoned team of entertainers to create Soul Getaway featuring live horn section and fun soulful music from the bands of KC & The Sunshine Band, Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, Blues Brothers and many, many more. ZACH WENDT - lead vocal & guitar & trombone
Zach Wendt our frontman for SOUL GETAWAY comes to us all the way from Quantico, VA. Zach served eight years fronting the United States Marine Corps Rock Show Band based at the US Marine Corps HQ in Quantico. During his tenure with the Marines he toured the United States and world.
Zach is a multi-talented entertainer that not only sings but also adds a whole other dimension to Soul Getaway reinforcing the band with additional meat to the sound on guitar and fatting up the horn section depth on trombone.
MELODY FUNK - vocals & bass
Melody Funk was born into a musical family, Melody started performing at the age of six. In high school, she played the oboe in the Oregon all-state band and orchestra and earned a scholarship to study oboe and voice at Mt. Hood Community College. She briefly studied with Stan Kenton. She began playing bass after college and played in clubs and for corporate events throughout the Northwest and Canada. She has worked with Jeff Lorber and Kenny G. In the San Juan Islands in Puget Sound she helped establish The Orcas Center For The Arts a musical theater group. Melody has extensive musical theatre experience. In 2004, Melody embarked on her cruise ship career. She has headlined for four cruise lines. Melody teaches private lessons for oboe, bass, and voice, and speaks to music students at high schools and universities about getting started in their music careers.

Glenn Thilman has over 35 years of professional performance experience in numerous groups in California and Washington with the following types of musical organizations: Rock/ Blues/ Soul/ R&B /Country/Modern Jazz/ Big Band Jazz/Latin Jazz / Funk & Fusion, Orchestra/ Concert Band / Musicals / Recording projects. Here is a sampling of musicians Glenn has performed with in the greater Seattle area: Paul Johnson & Friends, Metro-Scape Jazzmen, Kings of Swing, Doug Cassell Band, John Groves Jazz Combo, Jessica Ketola, Tiger Zane, Timmons-Wall Band, Tommy Simmons, Seattle Central Jazz Orchestra, – as well as freelance performance with various solo artists, independent music projects, musical theater (Forest Ridge School, Broadway Bound Childrens Theater). Glenn is also a private percussion instructor with over 25 years of experience. Specializing in snare drum and drum set technique for all styles of music for beginning through advanced levels. Excellent rapport building skills with students of all ages and backgrounds. Glenn attended Los Angeles Valley College, Van Nuys, CA 4 years college level instruction in music performance (drums and percussion), music theory, arranging & orchestration, music recording, orchestra and jazz ensemble. The Dick Grove Music School (Hollywood, CA) Jazz Ensemble - Percussion Ensemble – Jazz Improvisation – Music Theory. Private instruction as an adult with renowned Master instructor Freddie Gruber, Los Angeles, CA; and Freddie’s close colleague – Bruce Becker. Began Drums at age 13 with instructor Hack O’Brien (father of Mouseketeer Cubby Brien); continued with Los Angeles Jazz drummer John Perett during college.

Bob Crow is a Seattle based guitarist, bassist, singer/songwriter, and full time private instructor. Bob's lesson studio is located in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, where he began teaching in 2004. Bob studied music at Central Washington University earning his Bachelor of Music degree in music theory. Over the years he has sung and performed on guitar with many local rock, blues and country bands. Bob also performs around the greater Seattle area as one half of the acoustic guitar/vocal duo Bob and Sheldon.
